Peru: 'José' Admits Ambush

'Camarada José', the current leader of the Shining Path remnants - or at least one of them - has related in a television interview how he directed attacks against soldiers in the VRAE. In addition, he admitted that he charges drug traffickers a "war tax" and claimed that he has around 300 combat-ready guerrillas at his disposal (naturally, this figure may be exaggerated).

(La Republica; this story is illustrated by a very old stock photo, don't take it as representative of anything that may or may not be happening in the VRAE right now)
